Essay #1 Assignment

For your first assignment, please write a 3-5 page formalist, psychological, Marxist, or feminist analysis of a poem or short story from the selections found in Theory Into Practice.  Please choose one or more texts from "Literary Selections" (pages 239-327) in that text.  Choose carefully because in your second essay you will use the same text or texts to do a 5-7 page reader-response, deconstruction, or cultural analysis paper.

Your paper should be typed, double-spaced, and follow the MLA format. 

Your overriding concern is (1) to show critical thinking and (2) to demonstrate HOW a text is communicating.

Essay #1 will be due in class on 1 October.
